The corrective invoice: fixing without deleting

A factura rectificativa (corrective invoice) corrects an invoice already issued: an error in the details, a return or a later discount. It must reference the original invoice and doesn't replace it: it amends it while leaving a trace of the correction.

A factura rectificativa (corrective invoice) is the proper way to fix an invoice you've already issued. Once an invoice goes out with its number, it isn't deleted or rewritten: if there's an error, a return or a later discount, you correct it with a rectificativa.

The corrective invoice has its own numbering (a corrective series), references the original invoice and states what's being corrected. That leaves a clear trail: the original invoice exists, and its correction exists, so the tax office can follow the thread.

How Cece sees it

The golden rule of invoicing: never delete an issued invoice. If you made a mistake, a corrective invoice fixes it cleanly and keeps everything squared in your quarter's IVA.

Frequently asked questions

Can I delete or change an invoice I've already issued?

No. An issued invoice isn't deleted or rewritten: if there's an error, a return or a discount, you correct it with a corrective invoice that references the original. That keeps a record of the correction.
